The people I worked with were great. I think something about the shift gives everyone a greater sense of team. In fact, they did something with a temp that I didn't expect.
Tuesday night the chiller went down. Shortly after the compressor went down. We'd only been working an hour, and initially we hoped the machines would be back up shortly. I read from my collection of Philip K. Dick stories for two hours, before everyone decided that the machines were going to be down for at least a few more hours.
Marcus, the shift leader (not a manager - there are no managers on night shift) decides everyone should go out like they did last time. "Let's go to 7-eleven". We get in cars and head out. As we pass the 7-eleven I ask one of my co-workers where we're going. "You'll see" he says.
We pull up to a dive bar.
Have you ever had a beer with your co-workers on company time? It's surreal.
A drunk patron waddled up to our table and joined our group in spite of my efforts to dissuade him. (I told him his beer at the other table missed him, etc.) He tried to pick up every woman at the table (3) by telling us he was rich. He was too drunk to appreciate my comment "I thought your name was Tom?" He eventually was pushed away after he coped a feel from one of my co-workers.
After all the disc co. conspirators had a couple of beers, we went back to the factory. Just in time for the chiller and compressor to be back online.
The next morning I had a doctor's appointment. My first mammogram. I've been trying to get one for years (I have two cousins with breast cancer. One is losing her battle.) Somebody finally let me have one.
With this being my first mam, I don't know how common my experience was. It's kinda like my first live concert - Men at Work. Women threw their bras at the guys through the whole show. I assumed that women always threw bras at performers, but I've never seen bras thrown since.
So the facility has two x-rays and two dressing rooms, so they call two women in at a time. After they squished my breasts like pancakes, I was told to go back to my dressing room and wait in case the scans didn't work.
As I was sitting in a hospital robe with my arms around my recovering breasts, the woman in the dressing room next to me jumps around the corner and flashes me. Her breasts are the biggest real boobs I've ever seen in person (we've all seen vorheesleatherface's boobs links - right?). And as if to prove to me that I wasn't imagining things, she flashes me again.
After the gratuitous flashings, she then strikes up a conversation with me about her wonderful new bra. It could easily fit my and ammo's heads in each cup. It's a monster - 36G!!! We chat about my 'b' cups, how big boobs bump into things and breast reduction until the nurses tell us to leave. We walked out to our cars together, I felt like we'd been on a date. Maybe she did too, because she shouted across the parking lot "see you next year!!!"
Should I have gotten her digits?
